Reeling

The last few verses of Proverbs 5:

But why should you be captivated, my son, by an adulteress,
and embrace the bosom of a different woman?
For the ways of a person are in front of the Lord’s eyes,
and the Lord weighs all that person’s paths.
The wicked will be captured by his own iniquities,
and he will be held by the cords of his own sin.
He will die because there was no discipline;
because of the greatness of his folly he will reel.

(That’s 5:20-23.)

  1. What happened in the text?
    The course we take dictates outcomes in our lives.
  2. What do I learn about God?
    He sees what we do, and the choices before us.
    He judges our choices and behavior.
    He allows natural consequences to flow from sin.
  3. What should I do about it?
    Knock off all that sinning. No, seriously. I had a big cow today at work over a not-very-important issue, and just got out of control for no apparent reason. This doesn’t have anything to do with the adulterous woman, as far as I can discern it, but it is a bad choice, and a pattern of behavior, and a lack of discipline. I need to have more control over my reactions to frustrating news (and behaviors in others) than I showed today.
