Six Very Bad Things – No, Seven
…perhaps a little later than I’d prefer, but here’s today’s Proverb:
There are six things that the Lord hates,
even seven things that are an abomination to him:
haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
and hands that shed innocent blood,
a heart that devises wicked plans,
feet that are swift to run to evil,
a false witness who pours out lies,
and a person who spreads discord among family members.
- What happened in the text?
- What do I learn about God?
- What should I do about it?
- What happened in the text?
The text relates 7 things God hates. - What do I learn about God?
Um. 7 things He hates?- haughty eyes
- lying tongue
- hands that shed innocent blood
- heart devising wicked plans
- feet running to evil
- false witnesses
- discordant family members
- What should I do about it?
Hopefully none of these apply much!
Haughty eyes? I don’t think so, but it’s possible that somebody does. At any rate, I am aware that whether I’m haughty or not, I am too frequently judgmental. That seems awfully related. What to do about it? I think continuing to confess my own failings, and in specific cases where I’m having trouble with a particular person’s failings, to ask for God’s specific help.
I don’t think I’m a person who spreads discord among family members, but I do have sort of a “get over it or talk it out” attitude that probably doesn’t spread peace as I ought. I’ll have to think about what to do about that for a bit.
